The Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (ODPHP) is pleased to announce their new online consumer health information system, healthfinder.

At the opening session of the Partnerships ‘97 Conference on Tuesday, April 15, 1997, 9:00-10:00 a.m. the new DHHS gateway site healthfinder was launched by Secretary Shalala. healthfinderserves as a point of entry to the broad range of consumer health information resources produced by the Federal government and its many partners. The Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Disease Prevention and Health Promotion developed the site in collaboration with many HHS agencies.

healthfinder offers up-to-date health information, and does not duplicate existing web sites. It links information and services, organizes resources by subject and audience, and offers user-friendly searching so that consumers can quickly locate the health information they want. This site has been developed to meet the needs of people seeking basic information such as publications, clearinghouses, and referral services, as well as those who need research and clinical information. healthfinder is being released in phases. Phase one includes:

healthfinder was launched by Secretary of Health and Human Services Donna E. Shalala at the Partnerships '97 conference. Vice President Gore was a 'virtual participant' in the launch as well (1.8 meg video clip).
